Does the Superduty Really Take Months to Break In? 10 Owners Set the Record Straight
The Superduty has a reputation for toughness that comes with the assumption that a boot built that tough must take forever to break in. With the thick leather and the sturdy hand-built construction, that assumption is very fair to make, and not everyone has the same experience. These ten Superduty reviews weigh in on whether that assumption is actually true, from zero break-in to a genuine two months.

Six weeks in and still surprised at how easy the break-in was — no blisters, no stiffness he'd been warned to expect.
"Good looking, sturdy boot. Very easy break in. Only 6 weeks in. Never any blisters or need to change back to old boots. Not as stiff as many are saying. Good from 1st day. Only issue is, they are a little too long. Went one size less than my other boots and shoes and have about 2 thumbs of space. Hope they shrink like some have stated. They still work fine though."
A logger who says the break-in period simply never happened — the arch support and logger heel were comfortable from day one.
"Just over a couple weeks in but I have worn them every day. Absolutely no break in period. The arch support and logger heal makes these boots very comfortable."
Fourteen years with a competitor's boots, and the easiest break-in he's ever had convinced him he won't go back.
"The break in process was the easiest I have had yet! I have used a competitors boots for the last 14 years and I will never go back after the customer support JK gave me!"
A welder/fitter in a fabrication shop who barely noticed a break-in period at all.
"I am very happy with the purchase of my superduty very little break in. I'm a welder/fitter in a fabrication shop."
Twelve to eighteen hours a day in a chemical plant for three days and a bottle of Obenauf's oil got these boots fully broken in.
"My boots were broke in within 3 days with the help of obenaufs oil. After about 100 hours they were just right. I'm in my boots 12-18 hours per day. And with these boots, I find my self in no hurry to take them off at the end of the day. I work in a chemical plant and maintain my properties on my days off. I'm not particularly easy on a pair of boots but these things are aging beautifully and have given me no issues whatsoever. If you're considering a pair of these super duty s's, just go on an order them. You'll be glad you did."
A couple weeks in, with some early irritation around the ankles before the leather softened into what he calls "putting a sock on."
"Went to these because I'm tired of getting 6-8 months out of $200-$300 run of the mill boots. I'm a couple days shy of 2 weeks with them. Break in wasn't terrible, they were never uncomfortable, just had some irritating spots around the ankles before they started to soften up a bit, now they're like putting a sock on. Got fitted at the Tempe AZ store, they were super helpful and spent the time to make sure I got exactly what I needed."

A heavy equipment operator for the Forest Service who put in about two weeks before the boots felt right says it was worth every day.
"As a heavy equipment operator for the Forest Service these boots feel great! Took about two weeks to break in but worth it! I highly recommend!"

Retired now, let a tighter pair of Bisons ease in on their own terms.
"So at first these boots were real tight. They were a regular 'D' but I've gone through many boots and knew this leather would relax and fit my foot. After quite a few wearings my feet are easing in to comfort. A boot is not like a shoe. There are many different wear points on your foot and ankle and it takes time to break in the comfort. I am happy with the quality and materials used. I am retired now so break in time will be longer."

A break-in split down the middle for a former dock worker managing 30 years of foot problems. The uppers gave in fast while the footbed took its time.
"My plantar fasciitis of over 30 years finally went away... These boots are expensive, but used within their scope of design which you can customize, are spectacular. These are my 11.5 C 8 in boots. They support my arch on my semi narrow feet without inserts. The uppers have broken in fairly quickly. The footbed is not quite broken in. I haven't used the supplied inserts. The build quality is excellent. I'm not a cobbler, but I worked in my dad's upholstery shop for years. These boots are built like a one ton truck."
It took a full two months to break in, and now they fit like slippers.
"Excellent boot, very high quality. The fit was excellent for my feet. Took about 2 months for the boots to really break in. But now they really do fit like slippers."
Two months was the longest time in these, while most broke their Superdutys in within a couple of weeks, and several like the logger and welder say it barely took any time at all. Even the one owner who needed the full two months came out the other side calling them slippers. Built tough doesn't have to mean built stiff.
